Hi Besties!
Happy holiday to those of you who are celebrating Memorial Day (and, hopefully, having the day off) in the U.S. — and happy Monday to Besties around the world.
I'm running a 25% off special for Memorial Day, so if you've been wanting to become a paid Bestie, now is a great time to save yourself some cheddar and gain access to all the extras — including a new review of my advertising experiment in The Browser — all while supporting this venture.
The latest episode of the podcast featured Aakshi Sinha of Tink Media, and she loves making playlists, so I asked her to make one for us and she very kindly obliged. So today, I'm sharing that with you for some delightful and educational holiday listening... and, of course, you need to catch up on my conversation with Aakshi, if you haven't already listened.
I’m thrilled to share Aakshi’s playlist with y’all, but first, a quick word from our presenting sponsor… Vizard, a web-based solution for video content repurposing that I’m super pumped to start experimenting with for my own podcast promo purposes!

Playlists are like patchwork quilts. You choose each piece and paint a picture with it. I think about the sequence of the episodes and how they add to each other. For this playlist, the theme is creative marketing. The episodes start with science and human behavior and end with creativity and playful delight. I hope you enjoy it!
Hidden Brain - Less is More: In this episode of Hidden Brain, host Shankar Vedantam talks to Niro Sivanathan and Bryan McLaughlin about what makes an argument convincing. As podcasting marketers, we constantly seek the best ways to reach our audience. This episode offers valuable insights into things we can do when pitching.
Key Phrases: Dilution effect; less is more (as the title suggests), and information overload.
Nudge - The surprisingly simple way to change someone’s mind: Shoutout to Lauren Passell for recommending this show in Tink’s Slack channel! It has become a team favorite. This episode perfectly pairs with the previous episode. If less is more, and we need to be careful of the proof we give to convince someone of something, Phil Agnew’s episode on persuasion talks about how to share something so it is memorable and sticks. Hint: Stories are magic. Especially stories with solid characters we don’t know everything about.
Key Phrases: Complicated characters rather than complicated plots, strategically leaving things out.
The Best Advice Show - Create the Job You Want with Arielle Nissenblatt: This is one of my favorite things I’ve heard recently that I know I will keep re-listening to forever. I highly recommend listening to this short episode if you are figuring out what’s next for you professionally. I’ve been lucky to be around Arielle, and I see her practicing being earnest not just to create professional opportunities for herself and others but also to create communities around a cause. We never know what one instance of appreciating someone’s work and time can do.
Key Phrases: Creating opportunities for yourself through networking and building and maintaining professional relationships.
On Being with Krista Tippett - Rick Rubin — Magic, Everyday Mystery, and Getting Creative: In this episode, Krista Tippett talks with music producer Rick Rubin on the practice of craft, creativity, and flow, in honor of his new book, The Creative Act: A Way of Being. I am a music person and love discussing the process of creating music specifically. But I think this episode is for everyone, regardless of artistic medium. It’s a beautiful conversation about creativity and the practice of working with oneself.
Key Phrases: Memories as raw materials for creative projects; staying tuned in to catch our ideas through habits and rituals; the rollercoaster of executing a creative project; and the power of the “beginner’s mind.”
Sound School Podcast - We Need More Words To Describe Audio Stories: In this short and thought-provoking episode of Sound School Podcast, Rob Rosenthal talks to James T. Green about borrowing terms from art and architecture to describe audio. This reminded me of something we talked about in my history courses in college: the power of words to shape how and when we pay attention to different parts of our culture. As people who love podcasts and the audio medium, it’s inspiring to know what other makers think and practice in their work.
Key Phrases: When you limit language, you limit thinking; inviting listeners to participate in meaning-making.
The 11th - I’m Here To Pep You Up: This is a pure audio treat for you. We all need someone pepping us up sometimes. Maybe to help inspire a good poop, or before a job interview, write a scary email, or pick up a phone call. I won’t spoil this by over-explaining. Just listen, and I hope it makes you warm and smiley too.
Thank you so much to Aakshi for curating this awesome playlist! I’ve already started listening and it’s making my treadmill time a lot more enjoyable. 🏃♀️✨
