Intro to Dolby Atmos with Your Engineering Bestie, Michael Castañeda

Hello Besties!

Courtney here. I finally have book stuff off my plate for a bit and am getting back into podcast mode. To get back into the groove, I spent all day yesterday doing podcast cutdowns before shifting into newsletter mode, which I’m going to do all day today. Batching is going to be my best friend again for a couple of weeks until I’m caught up.

Today’s newsletter is dedicated to Mike’s column, so first, I wanted to share his recent interview with Adam Adams about how to fix your show’s bad audio quality. Unless you’re confident your podcast sounds pristine, you probably need to listen to this.

But the real meat and potatoes of this issue is Mike’s long-awaited Dolby Atmos lesson. And he brought an expert on board to help explain how it works (plus some more general sound and podcasting stuff towards the end).

Introducing C.J. Drumeller…

C.J. Drumeller is an Emmy award-winning sound designer, re-recording mixer, composer, and mastering engineer. Notably, his immersive work in scripted fiction podcasts includes shows like SOLAR, The Elmwood Strain, Between the Devil, In Another Room, as well as Against the Odds and Don't Panic with Anthony Atamanuik for Wondery.

So without further ado, here’s Mike and C.J.
