Last Saturday, which was my birthday and International Podcast Day, I finished the full draft of my memoir manuscript. Today, one of the essays from the memoir was published in The New York Times (hooray!).

I’m currently working on a rewrite before it ultimately goes on submission, so there are still several more steps on the journey for this particular project, but I got a creative high from finishing the manuscript, and, of course, I’m excited about my sexy new byline, as well.
This memoir has been years, perhaps a decade, in the making, depending on when you start the clock, but I've been working on it intensely over the past several months. During that process, I have learned some very important lessons. About batching. About prioritization. About focusing with a white-hot light on your most important project for a period of time in order to make meaningful progress. These lessons are also applicable to podcasting. If you have been struggling to complete everything on your to-do list, perhaps you need to cull the list until you get your top priority done.
I consider myself a multi-hyphenate — or multi-passionate, as some call it — but that doesn't mean I can dedicate myself equally to all pursuits at all times, so some of my podcast pursuits have had to take the backseat recently.
