Field Notes from a Recent Field Recording ✍️
The latest from Mike + Courtney's speaking at Outlier Podcast Festival
Hey Besties!
Courtney here. Just a quick announcement for my LA Besties: I’m speaking at Outlier Podcast Festival tomorrow — Friday, May 19th — at 2pm in North Hollywood. The topic is one of my favorite soapboxes: “Why Your Podcast Needs a Newsletter and Substack for Podcasters.” You can use code COURTNEY20 for 20% off your ticket. Come join us if you’re in town!
Today we’ve got another great column from Mike. He’s been doing field recordings to create and eventually sell SFX and ambient sound catalogs. It’s a fascinating process, and I love learning about it.

Hello again, Besties. I finally took a proper field recording trip and had an absolute blast. With all the rain Southern California got this spring, our mountains are full of snow, which means that our streams and rivers are FLOWING. Below is a short I made of my trip, along with a bunch of field notes of what I’m going to be working on for the next several months and a couple of professional goals sprinkled in. Enjoy!
